I made some progress on the Black and White wall hanging. Yesterday I looked all over the house for my supply of Steam-a-Seam for the applique, but couldn't find it anywhere. Finally I gave in and went to the Michaels down the street. They didn't have it either so I came away with Heat n Bond Ultrahold. It did the trick but not as easy to use as Steam-a-Seam. Also after reading the fine print, saw that you aren't supposed to sew through it. hmm. The giant flowers seem secure enough so I'm not going to have to make an emergency trip to the quilt store.
This is my first attempt at hand quilting! I think I'm going to like it but definitely need some more practice and a calloused thumb. I decided to just wing it like I normally do so hopefully it turns out all right.

When you have no internet...
Yesterday I spent the whole day hanging out with the AT&T guy. After 1 month, 3 visits from AT&T, 2 full days of them working in and around the house, and hours spent with the phone robot, we finally have reliable wireless internet! So instead of doing anything I had planned, I spent the day sewing and weaving. What better way to spend a day!
I've been wanting to give cathedral windows a try to feature a fabric charm pack I was really drawn to. These four are mostly done and just need their windows sewn down. So far I've done it all on the machine but I'll hand stitch the windows. I have no idea what I'll do with them but I had fun making them and will be making a bunch more.
This is the start of a wall hanging. I've decided to try more wall hangings in the hopes of completing more projects. The goal is to get this one done next week...so check back in and keep me on schedule! The black and white is the background. I plan on appliqueing a large colorful flower on top. I was going to do the whole background in b/w stripes but I'm liking the stripes at one end and the white open space on the other. We'll see where it goes.
The last project I was working on is this weaving. I have a bag of old clothes that Travis tried to throw out. I pilfered it away and now have a large supply of fabric to use! Don't ask how but I'm thinking of turning this into a headboard. That's it for this week!

Ivy embroidery
The pencil drawing of ivy
and the completed project.
This was supposed to be the background or sidebar picture for the blog but I haven't been able to get it to work yet. Hopefully this blogging thing gets easier!
And a new blog has begun
Welcome to my blog, IvyQuilts! I wanted to start blogging about quilting and other crafts as a way to stay on schedule and complete the projects I start. The goal is to get something done at least once a week! We'll see if I can keep up with that....and judging by my current completion rate, it's a lofty goal. This is why I am inviting anyone who would like to join me in sharing their craft to post on the blog as a way of sharing what you've been up to. I can't wait to see what we create this year!
